Dave Asprey: Gamechangers
Weasel words:
- Can’t
- Need (you only need water every five days, food after starving for a month, and shelter to keep you warm)
- Bad
- Try
Set your computer to automatically capitalize weasel words so you’ll have to change them to more truthful words.
Your brain is a scared, dumb organ that fears change.
Upwiring requires more effort and more risk than downwiring (staying rigid).
Aim your brain away from its comfortable default mode and steer it toward intentional choices that support the kind of growth you want to achieve.
Ex. When someone says something that bothers you, instead of reacting with anger as you normally would (downwiring), pause to consider why the comment upset you and choose with intention how to respond (upwiring).
Meditate on things you believe to be true about yourself and the world around you or journal about the things you believe to be true once a week.
Do it either in the morning or at night.
Believe the universe has your back.
The dual N-Back test for 30 minutes a day, every day, for 5 weeks increased fluid intelligence by 40%.
Try one of Jim Kwik’s courses.
The basic way to hack your memory is to think images, not words.
When you visualize images, you’re sending the information in the form of an image past your short term memory, straight into long-term storage.
Learning through teaching is the most powerful way to learn new information.
The next time you listen to a podcast or an audiobook, close your eyes and see if you can imagine the pictures that the speaker is trying to draw in your head.
Try mind mapping—drawing notes in paper using very few words but illustrating the connections between them.
Modafinil (Provigil)
We can repair our brains by healing the gut and consuming omega-3 fatty acids, which are critical building blocks for the brain.
Holotropic breathing.
All negative emotions—anger, insecurity, jealousy, guilt, shame, and greed—are rooted in fear.
All positive emotions are rooted in trust.
Interesting: Jia Jiang set a goal of being rejected once a day for one hundred days.
Every day he’d ask one person for something outlandish, like a burger refill at a fast food spot, an interlocking donut at dunkin, or to play soccer on a random person’s yard.
Interestingly enough, he sometimes got a “yes”, and even when he got rejected people tried to give him something else instead.
An experiment like this rids you of your fear of rejection and opens you to all the possibilities that come from just asking.
Turn expectations into preferences.
If you expect something, it’s lose-lose. If it gets fulfilled, you expected it and that’s that. If not, you’re angry or disappointed.
A preference will make you happier when fulfilled and more open-minded when not.
Epigenetics, Dr. Lipton showed that your genetic expression changes based on the content of your blood: whether you are stressed or happy.
Interesting: 4th state of water - Exclusion Zone water, critical to muscle function since 99 out of 100 molecules in your muscles are water.
Begin a daily practice of doing something meaningful right after you wake up.
Lots of people, and even athletes, think they are healthy because they work out once a day.
Movement is the key to health. It’s not enough to work out for 45 minutes and then sit for 16 hours.
If you finish eating and you can’t remember what your food tasted like or you eat because you are bored, you are eating for emotional reasons.
Eat like grandma:
- Eat small meals infrequently throughout the day.
- Eat adequate protein, especially protein rich in leucine like dairy, beef, chicken, pork, seafood, nuts, and seeds.
- Eat vegetables and take polyphenol supplements if you aren’t eating blueberries, grapes, or other blue, red, and orange foods.
- Take purified EPA and DHA fish oil or krill oil.
Vegetable oils are a major source of omega-6s that most people eat way too much of because they are the cheapest source of fat calories in the world.
They are “liquid death” because they are chemically unstable and promote the formation of free radicals which can directly damage DNA.
Add stable fats from butter, avocados, coconut, and ghee from grass-fed cows.
Adjust your diet if you get hungry within five hours of eating.
Foods like onions, garlic, asparagus, and cooled white rice feed gut bacteria.
Fermented foods are also rich in healthy bacteria.
Vitamin k2 works with vitamins A and D to heal dental cavities.
Grassfed butter has k2.
One of the simplest diagnostics is to take your temperature first thing in the morning.
It should be 97.3.
Lower and you are exhibiting hypothyroid symptoms. Need iodine.
Use an oura ring to track sleep.
If you have chronically low heart rate variability, it means your body is holding on to a lot of unconscious stress.
Useful data you want: heart rate, heart rate variability, temperature, and sleep quality.
If it’s in your budget, a full panel of health metrics for your functional medicine doctor is a great investment. Ask for hormones, full thyroid, inflammation markers, and nutrient analysis.
Stop doing the things that make you weak and start doing the things that make you stronger—in that order.
Interesting: stem cells at the base of the sinus can improve vision.
Wealth is a symptom of happiness.
Make your environment more like a zoo than a farm. P 266
You will perform better and live longer when real, unfiltered sunlight bathes your naked skin and enters your eyes for at least 20 mins a day.
EZ water is essential to movement within microtubules.
Get more EZ water:
- drink raw vegetable juices
- Drink fresh spring water
- Drink glacial melt water
- Forms spontaneously when regular water is vibrated or blended.
- Blend butterfat into water
- Forms when your cells are exposed to unfiltered sunlight
Uv light can improve nearsightedness.
Tryptophan and tyrosine are the precursors to melanin (dark skin compound)
Glyphosate affects your gut microbes so they can’t produce enough of these amino acids.
You need polyphenols (from bright colored plants) so your body can manufacture melanin.
Interesting: Dr. Pollack found that water flowed 5x faster through a narrow tube when exposed to UV light.
